WELCOME,

After 30 years in the teaching profession I have come to appreciate and understand the education system in NZ, Australia and Europe. Students' needs are individual and varied. I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.

It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.  The implementation of a range of metacognitive and task based learning approaches such as organising, enquiring, monitoring and evaluating foster student growth and encourage the inquisitive mind and the pursuit of knowledge. They are integral to the development of the student experience.

The programmes must be planned, implemented and assessed to relate to the children in an authentic context so it is relevant and meaningful. They will incorporate problem-solving approaches and set up experiences for students to transfer their new skills to similar but different situations.  Children are presented with choices in order for them to make informed and responsible decisions and know that they have consequences.

My position as a Dean for ten years has involved a wide variety of responsibilities and involved a large number of skills for this special role.  The leadership, guidance and pastoral care of the students and staff are the primary task of a Dean.  As such, I have been instrumental in situations of conflict and resolution between staff and students, discipline, individual situations, enhancing learning and organisational matters involving regular meetings, professional committees, special groups and liaison of outside agencies and others in the school community.

Also, I have been instrumental in areas of Curriculum delivery.  I have written programmes of work for the English Department as Assistant Head of Department in my teaching career.  I have worked on Curriculum programmes to streamline and develop Literacy achievement levels throughout the school.  Furthermore, I have taken positions in schools to enhance and raise Literacy in students throughout the school as Literacy Leader.

I have been at the forefront of initiatives and contracts including Literacy, Professional Development in Information Technology and E-Learning.  I have conducted staff meetings and organised staff training workshops towards this end.

I have accreditation and I am registered to teach in schools in New Zealand, Australia and Europe.

Currently, I work as a Consultant and Teacher Trainer in English and Literacy to raise standards in schools.  I write programmes of work, hold teacher workshops and provide guidance and feedback to Heads of Schools and teachers in classrooms.  I thoroughly enjoy this new direction in my career as an opportunity to raise levels in Literacy and to present English in a way that can best benefit teachers and students and improve their enjoyment of the subject, usage and examination results.
